Turning 6 and Much More
by Ngozi Osuagwu, MD | July 25th, 2021

I cannot believe it; this website is six years old. We have been disseminating information that would be helpful for anyone who needs the tools for healthy living. If you have been reading the blogs consistently, you will know that I am truly obsessed with the Blue Zones. Although most people around the world who live long healthy lives have been doing the things outlined in Dan Buettner’s book, Blue Zones, Lessons for Living Longer from the People Who’ve Lived the Longest, he was able to bring it together in one book.
It is not a coincidence that the ninth and last lesson, Right Tribe – Be surrounded by those who share the Blue Zone values landed on the sixth birthday of this website. Keeping My Sisters Alive and Healthy is about living long healthy lives. We are a tribe of women that want to do what is necessary to educate ourselves so that we are empowered to keep ourselves healthy. We are health advocates not only for ourselves but those who surround us. We know that if we take care of ourselves, we can take care of others. We share the information with our family and our friends. In the book, Mr. Buettner gives the following strategies for lesson nine – identify your inner circle, be likable and create time together.
I know that I am part of the right tribe with each of you. You are my inner circle. I have tried to be likable in that I have provided the information that will be helpful for healthy living. We have created time together at least every Monday morning. Thank you, thank you, thank you for being part of this family. I look forward to many more years of blogging. If you have not had a chance to take advantage of the other lessons in creating your Blue Zone, please click below:

As we have done every six months, I will list the top five blogs that have been read for your review.
Respect the Kidneys – About 37 million US adults are estimated to have chronic kidney disease and most are undiagnosed. Learn what the kidneys do and what you have to do to protect your kidneys. This post had the largest readership. I cannot stress how important are kidneys are to our health. Share this information.
MLK – Words of Wisdom – Although Martin Luther King, Jr. is not with us today, his words are still powerful. We still have so much to learn from him. Three of his quotes are mentioned in this blog to help us come together as a society.
I Got It – I am hoping that all of you reading my blog have gotten your COVID vaccine. If you have relatives or friends who have not gotten the vaccine, please share this blog. I got the vaccine and shared my experience. As a health care provider, I thank each of you for taking the vaccine, it tells me that you not only care about me, but you care about my colleagues. Taking the vaccine is a sign of kindness for humanity.
The Act of Sharing – I am an open book. In this blog, I discuss what happened to me with second dose of the COVID vaccine, I discuss my battle with high cholesterol and the need to know your numbers and I talk about my experience with the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Short Course that I registered to take. We can all learn from each other.
Happy Easter – We explore the meaning of Easter with one of Francis of Assis’s prayers.
I want to make sure that we are all benefiting from these posts. Our sisterhood is diverse in every way imaginable. I realize not every blog might speak to you, but if you know someone that might benefit, please share the information. If there is a health topic you want discussed on the blog, you can send an email directly to drngozi@ngoziosuagwumd.com. I am back on Instagram and hope to use this as a platform not only to tell you a little bit about me, but to share some health information. My six word motto is Keeping My Sisters Alive and Healthy and I will do that in anyway necessary.
Thank you for being you
